Overview of Savanna Private Game Lodge

Savanna Lodge lies in the Savanna Private Game Lodge, a game-rich corner of the exclusive Sabi Sand Reserve, an area where Big 5 sightings are so frequent that it is not at all unusual (but never guaranteed, of course,) to see lion, leopard, elephant, rhino and buffalo on a single game drive.

In case these extraordinary sightings are not enough, the numerous dams and waterholes in front of the lodge also attract much game, especially in the dry winter months when elephants drop by on a daily basis. Savanna Lodge is luxurious, with nine different suites each with their own take on how to relax and rejuvenate in total style in the African bush. There is a viewing loft above the lodge’s lounge that allows you to take in the floodlit waterhole – perfect for avid photographers – or perhaps enjoy a quiet game of chess. The library has facilities to download all your wildlife images and save them digitally to a variety of formats, as well as Wi-Fi. In the evenings, select a vintage from the wine cellar to enjoy with your dinner.

From private plunge pools in some of the suites to outdoor shower atriums and spacious bathrooms with deep, freestanding bathtubs in the centre, Savanna Lodge deserves mention for its luxurious take on the safari experience. It is ideal for honeymooners or couples who want to pair indulgence (like in-room massages) with superb game watching. Families or small groups will love the Savanna Suite, which has its own chef and the delight of every serious safari-goer: your own personal vehicle and guide.

The villa we stayed in was amazing, complete with nightly baths drawn for us after each evening game drive. The staff always went above and beyond to ensure that our needs were met, anticipating them before we even needed to make requests. Our game drives were unforgettable, every step of the way was very well organized and all of the staff worked in sync together. This made things smooth and seem less – exactly how a honeymoon should be. They even surprised us with a private dinner on our last night!

A totally different experience than Karula, which was great. Beautiful place, more ‘African’ and old world than Karula. Sabi Sands more green and lush than Kapama. Great contrast and loved them both. More collegiate atmosphere. Exciting dinner settings. Wine and drinks included, an amazing and much appreciated bonus. One of the best massages I have ever had.

First of all, we had a wonderful trip! The overall experience was incredible and we were consistently amazed at how all the logistics just seemed to work out. Our first stop at Savanna Lodge was spectacular. The place is beautiful, the people are wonderful, the luxury and detail to which they attend are outstanding and the game drives were unsurpassed. While there we saw 7 leopards, wild dogs hunting twice, elephants, giraffes, zebras, lions, buffalo, endless impala and all quite close and personal. In some ways we felt spoiled by our experience here and came to expect a high density of animals. Also, the food was very good and they feed you endlessly! We also appreciated their sense of being a family and their commitment to the local community.

We also enjoyed both the Chobe Game Lodge and the Savanna Lodge. It was fun to be able to spend some time at both places.

Savanna Lodge was amazing. The staff at Savanna created the most romantic engagement dinner for us. We will never forget our time in South Africa and are sad to be leaving so soon.

Savanna was also great – they had the best accomodations in terms of space and appointments. The food was wonderful as well and the spa treatments were superb – Didi and I both had massages on our tent porch. The tracker and driver team (Mike and Nordic) were first rate and really went all out for us. We actually saw the Big Five in One Drive – they were as excited as we were – they really gave it their all and we appreciated that.

More than met our expectations. The staff were very competent and friendly, the food excellent, and the small number of guests provided a good social atmosphere. We saw the Big Five within the first 24 hours and had many exceptional opportunities for viewing animals.

Was absolutely fabulous and we would like to thank you for highly recommending it. The attention to the little things, hot bath ready after our safari drives, glasses of sherry pre-dinner, lists of all our sightings, good night message and weather report, great food etc, etc. The staff went out of their way to make our stay special and were all extremely friendly. Game drives were of course the highlight and our guide (Geran) and tracker (Lawrence) worked hard to make our experience as extensive and memorable as possible and to share their vast knowledge and experience. The animals were just simply amazing……. including the many tiny ones that we normally would not have even seen. Overall the whole experience at Savanna far exceeded our expectations and will be one we remember for a long time to come. The entire operation is run very professionally and management seem to have gone to great lengths in employing their staff to ensure that they all contribute to creating a very memorable and personal experience for their clients. You are really made to feel part of their family.
