Ngamba Island Safari
An Ngamba Island Safari will take you to a beautifully
forested island in Lake Victoria. The island is Uganda's newest sanctuary
for orphaned chimpanzees and chimpanzees rescued from zoos, circuses, and
even the cooking pot!
Ngamba Island Chimp Sanctuary was established in 1998 in association
with the Jane Goodall Trust. The Sanctuary provides a home to more than 30
chimpanzees. The chimps are now free to roam their island, with the exception of a
small fenced-off section reserved for staff and visitors.
Ngamba
Island offers them a playground of tangled vines and towering trees where
they can live freely with no threat from the outside world. Because chimps
don't like water, the lake provides a natural boundary.
An Ngamba Island Safari allows you to view the chimps at
feeding time from a raised walkway that provides excellent photographic
opportunities. A more exciting option is to take a guided walk within the chimp
enclosure itself. |
