Tanzania Under Canvas Tent Safaris

Tanzania Under Canvas is a new safari concept that reaches far beyond the boundaries of the traditional Tanzanian safari.

Instead of the traditional safari concept, in which expeditions depart from permanent campsites, you move constantly and camp where the animals are. Luxury tent camps migrate across the Serengeti with the animals, following directly in their footsteps year-round.

From your roaming tented wilderness camp, you witness the vast Serengeti plains, game-rich and dotted with graceful Acacia trees. You experience Africa's wilderness up close and personal, and gain a true sense of spaciousness and remoteness. This is the ultimate Tanzanian safari, in fully-serviced style, comfort and elegance.

Details

Seasons

Tanzania Under Canvas operates tented camps year-round, and conditions are never poor at any time of year. But the ideal season to experience Tanzania's wilderness is during April and May when the plains are lush and green and every day brings dramatic afternoon thundershowers. You can witness unforgettable sights as the lightning flashes and the rainbows soar high above the Serengeti plains.

Facilities

Private campsites only are used for the intimate and exclusive migratory tented camps. Tents are Bedouin-style with twin beds, and full en-suite facilities, outdoor bucket-showers and 32m2 interiors where you can dine privately each night. With a maximum of 7 people per vehicle, 'window' seats on the open safari vehicles are guaranteed.

Schedules

Tanzania Under Canvas does not operate on scheduled departures. The camps' locations change frequently, depending on the movement of the wildlife, and regular location updates will be forthcoming. The twin-bedded tents can be booked on a nightly-rate basis.

Camps

Tanzania Under Canvas runs 4 migratory tented camps – Seronera, Ndutu, Grumeti, and Klein's. Their mobility allows guests close proximity to the entire cycle of the annual wildebeest migration, from the short grass plains in the Ngorongoro Conservation Area to the legendary Mara River in the north, the scene of the spectacular crossings.

Follow the Migration Packages

These luxury nine day tours include the safari highlights of northern Tanzania, like Lake Manyara and the Ngorongoro, and all of them spend time somewhere in the Serengeti, close to the location of the Wildebeest Migration. You’ll spend 6 nights in luxury five star lodges, and 2 nights in superb style under canvas.
