The Kilimanjaro Climb - The Marangu Route is a 7-day, 6-night climb of Africa's highest mountain. The Marangu route is the most popular Kilimanjaro climb and is nicknamed the 'Coca-cola' route followed by 50 percent of all climbers. The path is well defined and ‘climber friendly’ to make your adventure a little easier. The popular Kilimanjaro climb offers accommodation at Mandara, Horombo, and Kibo en route and accommodation on this route consists of built mountain huts providing adequate shelter, bottled water, beer and soft drinks. Climb Kilimanjaro and meet and mingle with other climbers from all over the world and make your adventure a social and friendly trip. This is a very scenic route with good views of Mawenzi and excellent prospects for viewing wildlife.

Killimanjaro Marangu Climb - lunch on the Marangu Route

Day 1: Marangu


You are picked up at the Kilimanjaro Airport and transferred to Moshi where you meet your guide at the Springlands Hotel. You will be briefed about the Kilimanjaro climb and will be able to hire equipment if you require it. Dinner and overnight at the Springlands Hotel

Day 2: Mandara Hut


Head towards Kilimanjaro National Park and enjoy some wildlife viewing on the way to Marangu for the 1st section of the climb through the beautiful rainforests. This section of the Kilimanjaro climb will take about 3-5hr to a height of 2750m. Stay overnight in Mandara Hut, relax and maybe converse with fellow climbers.

Day 3: Horombo Hut


Rise & shine early, and set off through the last section of the rainforest. The landscape changes and, during the steep 5-7hr walk, the altitude will begin to take effect but it should not deter you. You are in beautiful surroundings and Horombo Hut has views of both Kibo and Mawenzi, taking you to a height of 3700m.

Day 4: Kibo Hut


A 5-7hr walk takes you past cactus-like giant groundsel and within an hour you will arrive at the last watering point. At this section of your Kiimanjaro climb you need to fill up with water, take a breather and then head off for another 2hr, through a broad desert zone between the peaks of Kibo and Mawenzi, known as the Kibo Saddle at a height of 4700m.

Day 5: Horombo Hut


Start just after midnight for a 5hr climb up Kilimanjaro to watch the sunrise at Gillmans Point, 5681m, on the crater rim. The final climb to Uhuru Peak takes you to the highest point in Africa at 5896m. After taking in the awe of conquering Kilimanjaro, you descend for 4-7hr to Horombo Hut to stay overnight.

Day 6: Marangu


You wake up to a satisfying feeling and descend to the Park Gate, 5-7hr, where you will be met and transferred to Springlands Hotel where you can relax, with a sense of achievement, before dinner and an overnight stay.

After breakfast you will be transferred from Moshi to Kilimanjaro for your departure flight.
