The old colonial architecture of Lake Naivasha Country Club is solid and comfortable, with rooms and cottages set in 12 hectares of green lawns shaded by mature acacias and spreading fever trees.
The public rooms are elegant and cool; the lounge has a massive fireplace and large bay windows, whilst the bar is cosy and adjoins an immaculately equipped snooker room.
During the day Lake Naivasha is the focus of activity. There is good fishing for black bass and tilapia, and a boat trip is recommended for a close-up of Naivasha's remarkable variety of birdlife and its hippo colonies.
A visit to the private game sanctuary of Crescent Island should not be missed. There are no predators on the island, making this one of the few places in Africa where you can wander safely on foot amongst zebra, wildebeest, gazelle, vervet monkeys and giraffe.
